High school is one of the most important times in a teenager’s life. Teens undergo educational and personal development during this period. With change, though, comes the lure of bad habits. Broadview University has been teaming up with Davis High School for the past two years to provide safety awareness to help teens make good decisions.

Each year, Davis High School hosts ‘Red Ribbon Week’, which is a school-wide campaign promoting healthy habits. The initiative aims to combat the use of drugs, alcohol and texting while driving. This year’s theme of ‘Set On Safety’ gave Broadview University another opportunity to provide education on dangerous behaviors.

Broadview’s Criminal Justice Program Chair Dan Swanson headlined the week’s events as a guest speaker during the school’s assembly. “I know I can’t scare you with stories, but I can tell you how it really is in life when drugs become an addiction,” said Swanson during his presentation. “It’s not fun, so listen up.”

Swanson went on to talk about drug relapse, the cost of supporting prisoners and how Davis County compares to national trends. Broadview University’s high school staff also helped with student activities and daily games.
