No reason for kid to keep adults secret; kids encouraged to bring secrets to light

Broadview will be encouraging kids to not keep secrets in the dark and bring them to the light by sharing with someone they trust. This will be the message during South Jordan City’s third annual Night Out Against Crime: Health and Safety Fair. Criminal justice program chair, Dan Swanson, said if there is one thing every child should know is that there is nothing an adult should ever ask them to keep secret.

“The only time an adult is asking a kid to keep a secret is when it is something they could get in trouble for. Kids need to know that if they are asked to keep a secret that means that they should find another adult they trust and tell them what’s going on.” Swanson said.

The annual Night Out Against Crime was started by the South Jordan Police Department as a way to involve the community. It has grown in size each year, with an expected attendance of over 2,000 people for this year’s event.

Friday, August 23 will be the night of the event hosted at Heritage Park in South Jordan City. For more information, please visit the city website.
