Campus donates to Boise Rescue Mission, becomes drop-off site for food and toy donations
(BOISE) Broadview University is supporting local families in need this holiday season. The Boise campus announces it has made a $500 charitable contribution to the Boise Rescue Mission. The money will be used to help fund the Mission’s annual holiday dinner at the Boys and Girls Club in Garden City on Saturday, December 17. In addition to the monetary donation, the campus is also partnering with Cable One and the local Toys for Tots program to be a public drop-off site for food and toy donations.
“During the holidays, many families struggle to put food on their table and presents under the tree,” Dan Gray, a business student at Broadview University, said. “With the public’s help, we can make these holidays a little more enjoyable for local families in need.”
Gray is half of a student team working on the food and toy donation project as part of a supervisory management course. The team is responsible for project planning, coordination and execution.
“This entire project truly highlights our ‘We Care’ philosophy,” Barb DeHaan, Campus Director for Broadview University, said. “We care about our students, our staff and our community. Families in need are being helped by this project. Our students are getting the real-life experience they need in order to become professionally skilled, caring members of our community. And our staff gets the opportunity to contribute their time and efforts to partner on these projects and show that our campus truly does care.”
The campus will start collecting food and toys on Monday, November 28. Collections for both will end on Thursday, December 15. The campus, located at 2750 E. Gala Court in Meridian, is open to the public 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
All non-perishable food items collected will be donated to the Idaho Food Bank. All unwrapped toys will be donated to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. For more information, call (208) 577-2900.
